Luttrell was the keynote speaker at the 25th annual Celebrate Independence event Saturday hosted by Brooks Rehabilitation at the Schultz Center, 4019 Boulevard Center Drive. In his new best-seller, “Service: A Navy SEAL at War,” Luttrell shifts his focus from his own experiences as a Navy SEAL to the nature of service on America’s battlefields and the soldiers who give their lives to defend their nation and each other. Gravely wounded on the mission, Luttrell writes about courage, friendship, teamwork, fortitude and modern warfare in a tribute to his three brothers-in-arms who didn’t make it off that mountain after their team was attacked by Taliban fighters. Although retired from the military, Luttrell served as an inspiration Saturday in a room packed with people who, like him, survived horrific injuries and circumstances to inspire those they meet.Ī decorated veteran, Luttrell is the author of the best-selling book “Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10.” Made into a movie, the book is the true account of the four-member SEAL team on a deadly mission that took them into the mountainous border of Afghanistan and Pakistan during Operation Redwing in 2005.

Marcus Luttrell sacrificed much as he served his country as a U.S.
